Skewed: Psychiatric hegemony and the manufacture of mental illness in
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Gulf War Syndrome, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, is a detailed investigation in to the psychiatric
diagnosis of a range of illnesses which some have suggested are actually caused
by chemicals.
The book traces the chemical companies' arguments against their products
causing illnesses and it tracks the growth of the theory promoted by them that
individuals who report symptoms of chemically induced ill health have
personality disorders.
the book asks how psychiatric theories of 'unexplained illness' have managed
to gain ascendancy and shape the diagnosis, research funding and public
perception of these illnesses in Britain.

Skewed is an essential text that needs to be available to everyone who goes to
college with the ideal in their head that they want to work in the chemical
industry or practice medicine. It also needs to be in every major bookstore, and
the author needs to appear on tv, radio and in print telling his story. For too
long industry and its apologists have dominated the media with their cynicism
and their lies.
Martin Walker's book reveals only one aspect of this story. It is a not a book
about science nor even a book about the illnesses involved. It is a book about
the extent industry will go to protect its interests. We need more writers doing
investigations like Martin Walker to make industry accountable for their
actions, and to make them pay, as individuals, for these actions.

The UK version of Osler’s Web. This book is a must have. It will absolutely blow
your mind and make you furious that people aren’t forced to declare their
competing interests when they state their ‘opinions’ You’ll never look at
certain ME/CFIDS ‘advocates’ the same way again.

This is an overdue expose of the fraudulent practices which have blighted the
lives of, and caused inexcusable distress to, some very ill people. I personally
endorse your book and see it as a vital weapon in our struggle to achieve a just
outcome of treatment for those who suffer from this illness in Wales.

I think that Martin Walker has presented a pretty convincing case that
complaints such as MCS/GWS/ME/CFS are not being properly investigated because of
a distortion in the accepted practice of scientific research that is propagated
by psychiatrists with an axe to grind, supported by organisations that are
funding them to grind it.
