UPDATED Maine AG Files Suit Against Gentle Wind UPDATED

The Gentle Wind Project - a 'healing organisation' based in Maine, USA, which was heavily criticised in past issues of the Truth Campaign - have been served with a lawsuit by the Maine Attorney General. It would appear that the Maine AG shares most of the same concerns that we expressed, and has called for the Gentle Wind Project to be disbanded, with financial penalties, return of what GWP describe as 'donations' for their 'healing devices', and backdated taxes to be paid on such 'donations', which the AG sees as actual purchases of products.

After publishing articles, heavily critical of the GWP, their 'healing devices', and their financing arrangements, in both the Truth Campaign and on GWP's internet forum, Steve Gamble (also Equilibra) and I (also The Truth Campaign) were served with a lawsuit in 2004 alleging a conspiracy and racketeering in concert with ex-GWP members and several cult awareness experts to deliberately benefit from a campaign to deliberately damage GWP. This lawsuit cost Steve and I several thousand pounds and nearly destroyed the Truth Campaign. I am still paying back the money borrowed to fund our legal fees, which came at a time when we were for the first time starting to make financial progress as an organisation and managing to pay off the debts and loans that have been necessary over the years to keep us going.

The legal fees were simply too overwhelming, and we ultimately had to enter a mutual agreement in order to be dismissed from the lawsuit. The agreement was actually something of a minor miracle, and left both Steve and I with only minor modifications to make in our material, and with mutual restrictions on what the GWP could publish about us. The GWP then launched a new lawsuit in civil court against the remaining defendants, which is yet to go to trial.

However, in light of this recent move by the Maine AG, one wonders if that will now take place.

STATE ENTERS INTO CONSENT DECREE WITH THE GENTLE WIND PROJECT FOR DECEPTIVE PRACTICES AND VIOLATIONS

Attorney General Steven Rowe announced today that the State has entered into a consent decree with The Gentle Wind Project, a Kittery-based charitable organization, and six named defendants (collectively, "GWP") who served as officers or directors for many years. The consent decree resolves violations of the Maine Unfair Trade Practices Act relating to GWP's claims about its so- called "healing instruments," and violations of law relating to the mismanagement of the charity and its funds by those who held positions of fiduciary responsibility.

The "healing instruments" were manufactured and distributed by GWP from designs that allegedly came from the "Spirit World" via telepathic impressions received by the charity's founder, John Miller. GWP claimed that the instruments repair a person's "etheric," or invisible energetic structure, which then improves one's emotional, mental, and even physical functioning. The instruments were sold to consumers via GWP's website and through "seminars" for requested "donations" of often hundreds or thousands of dollars, depending on the design. The research that GWP claimed to have done on the instruments does not support their alleged benefits. The Unfair Trade Practices Act, as interpreted by the Federal Trade Commission and the federal courts, requires that any express or implied health claims be substantiated by objective and reliable scientific evidence. In the absence of such evidence, the claims are deceptive.

The named defendants have agreed to pay civil penalties and costs and to an injunction that prohibits them from making certain health and research claims about the "healing instruments" or from serving as fiduciaries or advisors for any other Maine nonprofit. The parties have also agreed that GWP will be dissolved, and its remaining assets distributed by the Attorney General as restitution to consumers who purchased a "healing instrument" since 2003 and to a Maine charity whose charitable mission is to provide services to those with mental health disabilities.

"We believe that this is a just resolution of the violations of law committed by the defendants. People who give money to a Maine charity should be able to trust in its integrity, and in the integrity of those who are charged with its operation. This charity damaged the public's trust and it should not be allowed to continue," Rowe said.

The consent decree and order that were filed in the York County Superior Court late last week will become final once approved by the Court. Attorney General Rowe praised Assistant Attorney General Carolyn Silsby for her work in the case.

US extends credit line to Israel

Bush administration agrees to extend by three-year loan guarantees for Israel given to Israel in 2003; Israel has used USD 4.9 billion of a total USD 9 billion

The Bush administration has agreed to an Israel demand that a loan guarantee deal be extended by an additional three years, until 2011.

The Congress needs to approve the move.

Finance Minister Abraham Hirchson said the administration's conceding to Israel's request underscores Washington's faith in Israeli economy.

In 2003, the United States approved a USD 9 billion aid package to Israel in the form of loan guarantees which allow Israel to borrow money on the international market for low interest rates.

What we know and don't know about 9/11 "Holding the Bush regime accountable for its obvious & documented lies"

I received a number of intelligent responses from readers of my August 14 column, "Gullible Americans," The letters deserve a reply. Moreover, some contain important points that should be shared with a wider audience. Pundits such as myself are not the only people who have interesting things to say. Considering the number of letters and the time it would require to respond individually, I am replying instead in this column.

Most readers from whom I heard understand the difference between loyalty to country and loyalty to a government. They understand that to support a political party or a government that is destroying the US Constitution and America's reputation in the world is, in fact, an act of treason. Therefore, I did not have to read the usual drivel about how doubting "our government" is un-American.

Among the issues raised are:

How could the complicity of the US government, or some part of it, in the events of 9/11 be kept a secret? For the most part, this question comes from Americans who believe the government must have been, to some extent, complicit in the attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon.

How can we differentiate between the real facts, the 9/11 Commission's reporting of the facts, and "conspiracy theories"?

Irish company challenges scientists to test 'free energy' technology

An Irish company has thrown down the gauntlet to the worldwide scientific community to test a technology it has developed that it claims produces free energy.

The company, Steorn, says its discovery is based on the interaction of magnetic fields and allows the production of clean, free and constant energy -- a concept that challenges one of the basic rules of physics.

It claims the technology can be used to supply energy for virtually all devices, from mobile phones to cars.

Steorn issued its challenge through an advertisement in the Economist magazine this week quoting Ireland's Nobel prize-winning author George Bernard Shaw who said that "all great truths begin as blasphemies".

Channel 1 television on Wednesday reported than Israel Defense Forces doctor who examined kidnapped Lebanese guerrilla leader Mustafa Dirani found physical evidence to back his charge that he was raped.

The channel quoted from a document where the doctor, identified as Lieutenant Colonel Chen Kugel, wrote, "on the basis of my examination of Mr. Dirani... the results can substantiate the essence of the complaint" that he was raped.

Software that will help sort millions of Canadian health records was developed by a company funded through the CIA's venture capital partner, sparking concerns about the confidentiality of patient data.

Privacy advocates are raising questions about Canadian use of the Initiate Systems indexing program given its creator's financial connection to In-Q-Tel — a private firm that helps the U. S. Central Intelligence Agency zero in on promising technology.

"There's a smell test that happens here, and it doesn't smell right," said David Fewer, general counsel for the Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic.

"The optics require that foreign intelligence services stay well away from the delivery of health care services in Canada."

The first stage is technology to “remotely create physical sensations.” They give the example of the Active Denial System "people zapper" which uses a high-frequency radiation similar to microwaves as a non-lethal means of crowd control.

Other weapons can affect the nervous system directly. The Pulsed Energy Projectile fires a short intense pulse of laser energy. This vaporizes the outer layer of the target, creating a rapidly-expanding expanding ball of plasma. At different power levels, those expanding plasmas could deliver a harmless warning, stun the target, or disable them - all with pinpoint laser precision from a mile away.

Early reports on the effects of PEPs mentioned temporary paralysis, then thought to be related to ultrasonic shockwaves. It later became apparent that the electromagnetic pulse caused by the expanding plasma was triggering nerve cells.

Details of this emerged in a heavily-censored document released to Ed Hammond of the Sunshine Project under the Freedom if Information Act. Called “Sensory consequence of electromagnetic pulsed emitted by laser induced plasmas,” it described research on activating the nerve cells responsible for sensing unpleasant stimuli: heat, damage, pressure, cold. By selectively stimulating a particular nociceptor, a finely tuned PEP might (induce) sensations of say, being burned, frozen or dipped in acid -- all without doing the slightest actual harm.

Monsanto Announces Takeover of Delta & Pine Land and Terminator Seed Technology (again)

In a quest to expand its corporate seed empire - Monsanto, the world's largest seed enterprise - announced yesterday that it will buy the world's leading cotton seed company, Mississippi-based (USA) Delta & Pine Land, for US$1.5 billion. Monsanto and Delta & Pine Land (D&PL) together account for over 57% of the US cotton seed market. With D&PL subsidiaries in 13 countries - including major markets such as China, India, Brazil, Mexico, Turkey and Pakistan - the takeover means that Monsanto will command a dominant position in one of the world's most important agricultural trade commodities and that millions of cotton farmers will be under increased pressure to accept genetically modified (GM) cottonseed.

"This merger," says Ibrahim Coulibaly, President of the National Coordination of Peasants' Organizations of Mali, "guarantees an intensification of the already immense political pressure on West African governments to accept genetically modified seeds. Delta & Pine Land couldn't exercise the kind of clout Monsanto can. This deal is a major threat to our farmers and food sovereignty. African farmers' groups and civil society organizations need international support to resist the pressure of multinational corporations and USAID on African governments to adopt GMOs."

During the early 1990s, the World Health Organization (WHO) had been overseeing massive vaccination campaigns against tetanus in a number of countries, among them Nicaragua, Mexico, and the Philippines. In October 1994, HLI received a communication from its Mexican affiliate, the Comite' Pro Vida de Mexico, regarding that country's anti-tetanus campaign. Suspicious of the campaign protocols, the Comite' obtained several vials of the vaccine and had them analyzed by chemists. Some of the vials were found to contain human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG), a naturally occurring hormone essential for maintaining a pregnancy.

hCG and Anti-hCG Antibodies: In nature the hCG hormone alerts the woman's body that she is pregnant and causes the release of other hormones to prepare the uterine lining for the implantation of the fertilized egg. The rapid rise in hCG levels after conception makes it an excellent marker for confirmation of pregnancy: when a woman takes a pregnancy test she is not tested for the pregnancy itself, but for the elevated presence of hCG.

However, when introduced into the body coupled with a tetanus toxoid carrier, antibodies will be formed not only against tetanus but also against hCG. In this case the body fails to recognize hCG as a friend and will produce anti-hCG antibodies. The antibodies will attack subsequent pregnancies by killing the hCG which naturally sustains a pregnancy; when a woman has sufficient anti-hCG antibodies in her system, she is rendered incapable of maintaining a pregnancy.

According to the most recent CDC estimates, one in 166 children in the US suffers from an autistic disorder. Twenty years ago, autism only affected one in 10,000 children.

For years now, studies have shown that exposure to mercury in childhood vaccines, not only causes autism but can also result in immune, sensory, neurological, motor, and behavioral dysfunctions similar to traits associated with autism.

On May 21, 2003, after a three year investigation, "The Mercury in Medicine Report" was released by the House Committee on Government Reform, and stated in part:

"Thimerosal used as a preservative in vaccines is likely related to the autism epidemic. This epidemic in all probability may have been prevented or curtailed had the FDA not been asleep at the switch regarding a lack of safety data regarding injected thimerosal and the sharper eyes of infant exposure to this known neurotoxin. The public health agencies' failure to act is indicative of institutional malfeasance for self protection and misplaced protectionism of the pharmaceutical industry."

The Congressional report also said that the CDC, due to its "biases against theories regarding vaccine-induced autism," had chosen to fund researchers "who also worked for vaccine manufacturers to conduct population-based immunologic studies. . ." and stated:

"The CDC in general and the National Immunization Program are particularly conflicted in their duty to monitor the safety of vaccines, while also charged with the responsibility of purchasing vaccines for resale as well as promoting increased immunization rates."

Hospitals have been urged to do more to cut medication errors after figures showed more than 40,000 mistakes were made in the last year.

The Healthcare Commission said many Trusts were not explaining possible side effects to patients and needed to improve how they prescribed and dispensed drugs. The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) published its review covering England and Wales upon request from the Healthcare Commission.

A spokeswoman for the NPSA said one in five of these mistakes caused harm to patients in some form. About 6,000 caused 'low harm' to patients, and 2,000 caused moderate or severe harm.

Only 18 trusts in the Commission's review of medicines management were rated as "excellent", while 70 were "good", 73 were "fair" and 12 were listed as "weak".

The FDA is now poised to dramatically change the health and well being of all Americans. Unfortunately, they are headed in the wrong direction—straight over a cliff. The FDA is supposed to make sure drugs are safe and effective; they are mandated to protect the public. However, the top two positions at the FDA are now headed by Big Pharma representatives. The Bush-appointed new FDA leadership is intent on removing any brakes being applied to the drug approval process, quite happy to turn ill Americans into human guinea pigs.

It had been touted as a safer alternative to the amphetamine-like stimulants prescribed to millions of hyperactive children and young adults. Now concerns about a potentially fatal side effect have crushed plans to market modafinil as a treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Modafinil, which boosts wakefulness and focus, is approved for adults with excessive sleepiness. A proposal to market it for treating ADHD hit a snag in March when one of 933 children taking part in a clinical trial developed a life-threatening skin condition (New Scientist, 1 April, p 8).

The near zero reporting of drug side-effects by doctors makes it impossible to know how many people are killed and injured by any drug. It is only when so many patients have been adversely affected that the numbers cannot be overlooked that drugs are sometimes withdrawn. Discussions with some pharmacist friends both here in France and the UK have suggested they think the unnecessary over-prescribing of drugs is around 80%. Therefore if this is about right then about 80% of adverse drug reactions are caused by medical drugs which were not necessary. Conditions like diabetes, Parkinson's, blood disorders, cancers and birth defects are probably hardly ever reported at all as the cause and effect can easily be denied and where the latent period is long, as with cancers, it is difficult to prove the cause. In the first salvo of what promises to be a turbulent season of anti-Israel activities at American colleges, a group of students and others at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh protested on July 26 against “Israeli terrorism” in Lebanon.

While most campuses have been quiet because of the summer recess, “This year will be the most challenging in memory,” warned Jonathan Kessler, the leadership development director at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which organizes pro-Israel activities at universities around the country.

He and a number of other American Jewish leaders and educators said they are bracing for a surge of rallies, protests and campaigns against Israel’s military conduct in Lebanon when the fall semester begins later this month. They know Israel will be portrayed by critics as a powerful and murderous war machine against innocent citizens. And they plan to counter such propaganda with a message emphasizing Hezbollah’s responsibility not only for Israeli deaths with missiles aimed at civilians but Lebanese casualties as well, since the terror group positions itself among the populace.

In addition to concern about stepped-up activities by anti-Israel students and faculty, the officials acknowledge they are worried about the reactions of many Jewish students who have witnessed on television and the Internet the images of Lebanese civilians killed, wounded or made homeless in the current conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.

“I don’t think we should underestimate the importance” of the war’s impact on “a younger generation of diaspora Jews” who either “unjustifiably blame Israel or become more alienated” from Israel, noted Stephen P. Cohen, a Mideast scholar at the Israel Policy Forum.

The Hillel director of a major university said his impression was that Jewish students “are in agony, they feel they can’t defend Israel. They’re embarrassed.”

The United States, which pays 22 percent of the U. N.'s regular annual budget of 1.8 billion dollars, has arrogantly demanded a dominant voice in management and administration -- primarily because it is the biggest single financial contributor to the world body.

"U. N. member states, and particularly its largest contributors, want to know if they are getting the most value for the dollars they contribute," says Mark P. Lagon, the U. S. deputy assistant secretary for international organisation affairs.

"People who look to the United Nations for help want to know that, too," he told the Committee on International Relations of the U. S. House of Representatives early this year.

But what he failed to tell the committee is what the United States, in turn, extracts from the United Nations -- financially and politically.

According to the latest figures released by the U. N., the United States has consistently held the number one spot in grabbing U. N. procurement contracts, averaging over 22.5 percent of all U. N. purchases annually.

Some 84 movie stars, film industry members sign statement condemning Hizbullah, Hamas activities in Middle East Yitzhak Benhorin

WASHINGTON - Heads of the film industry in Hollywood and prominent movie stars have signed a statement blaming Hamas and Hizbullah for terror activities in the Middle East, the war in Lebanon, and for harming innocents.

Some 84 senior film industry members signed the statement, published in the Hollywood Reporter newspaper, the Los Angeles Times, and the Variety newspaper.

Among the signatories: Sylvester Stallone, James Woods, Bruce Willis, director Ridley Scott, tennis player Serena Williams, Nicole Kidman, Michael Douglas, Dennis Hopper, William Hurt, Josh Malina, Kelly Preston, Danny DeVito, Don Johnson, and media tycoon Rupert Murdock.

The Israeli Consulate in Los Angeles has been active since the start of fighting with an aim of drafting Hollywood stars to back Israel. During the war, Ehud Danoch, the consul general, initiated a mission aimed at enlisting support for Israel in Hollywood. The team was comprised of Israeli directors and producers in Hollywood: Arnon Milchan, David Matalon, Avi Arad, Danny Dimbort and Avi Lerner.

9-11 Investigative Journalist - Christopher Bollyn - Harassed And Beaten By Undercover Cops

After calling 911 to report a suspicious vehicle with three armed men in my neighborhood, I was harassed, beaten and shocked with a Taser gun in my front yard in Hoffman Estates, Ill., in front of my wife and child. I was subsequently charged with resisting arrest and aggravated assault. I was then subjected to six hours of abuse at the hands of the local police.

I suspect that this operation was not accidental and was not an initiative of the local police. The questions remains whether I have been targeted as part of an ADL-FBI operation because of my journalistic investigations. Over the years, I have investigated the many unanswered questions surrounding 9-11. Having received several threats in my career with AFP and the now defunct Spotlight newspaper, this is the first time I have been beaten and abused by authorities.

Manufacturers of the heart drug Aldactone (spironolactone) saw sales soar after a study in 2004 found that it helped patients recover after suffering severe heart failure.

It's a powerful diuretic that removes surplus fluid from the bloodstream or tissues, and it can also prevent salt retention in patients with heart failure.

As such, it's been used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), congestive heart failure, kidney and liver disease, and conditions where there are abnormally low levels of potassium in the blood.

Better yet, it seemed to be 'well tolerated', as doctors put it. In other words, it has side effects that aren't too worrying, and they include nausea, headache, low blood pressure, constipation, dizziness, and shortness of breath.

There had been a few rumours that it might cause stomach problems, such as ulcers and gastric bleeding, but these had never been verified.

But a new study, involving 306,000 patients taking Aldactone, has discovered that it dramatically increases the risk of gastric or duodenal ulcer - in fact, by nearly three times.

Does the risk outweigh the drug’s benefits? Probably not, but at least patients know why they have serious stomach problems all of a sudden - and new patients can be told about the risks, too.

The doctor's promise to 'first do no harm' may have to be altered to: 'First do nothing'. Doctors who do not immediately prescribe antibiotics for treating conjunctivitis and upper respiratory infections find their patients do just as well – and without suffering any drug side effects.

With or without antibiotics, common and minor ailments seem to last for about the same amount of time and with similar levels of discomfort, new research has found.

The one advantage of antibiotic therapy is that it can prevent complications - but the risk is so small with most of the common ailments that the possible side effects of the drug outweigh any benefit. Side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and rash are common, and unnecessary prescribing is merely adding to the problem of antibiotic resistance.

In one study researchers tracked the progress of 307 patients with acute conjunctivitis, the eye infection. Some were immediately prescribed antibiotic eye drops, others were given nothing, while the rest started antibiotic treatment three days after visiting the doctor.

There was no difference between the immediate and delayed action groups in terms of the severity and duration of the disease, although the delayed action group had used fewer eye drops.

It’s a pattern that repeats across a range of minor ailments. Previous studies found that delayed, and reduced, antibiotic use made no difference in the recovery of children with acute otitis media, the ear infection, or in patients with upper respiratory tract infections, such as the cold.

The US government was closely involved in planning the Israeli campaign in Lebanon, even before Hizbullah seized two Israeli soldiers in a cross border raids in July. American and Israeli officials met in the spring, discussing plans on how to tackle Hizbullah, according to a report published yesterday. The veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh writes in the current issue of the New Yorker magazine that Israeli government officials travelled to the US in May to share plans for attacking Hizbullah.

Quoting a US government consultant, Hersh said: "Earlier this summer ... several Israeli officials visited Washington, separately, 'to get a green light for the bombing operation and to find out how much the United States would bear'."

A GM grass created for golf courses has escaped into the wild, threatening to create superweeds. The grass has been altered a US lab in Oregan. The idea is to allow golf clubs to spray their fairways & greens with strong chemicals such as Roundup while the grass remains green.

In theory these superweeds could transfer their chemical resistance to wild cousins that would dominate vast areas. The GM plant is called creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera). It carries a bacterial gene protecting it from glyphosate weedkiller, marketed as Roundup. It was created by the Ohio-based firm Scotts, in partnership with Mosanto. The US Environmental Protection Agency team has found GM pollen from the grass has contaminated a vast area around the test site in Oregon. One of the contaminated plants was 2.5 miles away. Previous UK studies found GM pollen was carried up to 3 miles by bees. The team showed GM grass has spread both by pollinating non-GM plants to form hybrids & by seed movement. It is a perennial & re-grows year after year. If it reaches wildernesses or waterways highly toxic chemicals might be necessary to remove it.

Whatever we think of Israel's assault on Lebanon, all of us seem to agree about one fact: that it was a response, however disproportionate, to an unprovoked attack by Hizbullah. It's an important question. But its premise, I have now discovered, is flawed. Since Israel's withdrawal from southern Lebanon in May 2000, there have been hundreds of violations of the "blue line" between the two countries. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil) reports that Israeli aircraft crossed the line "on an almost daily basis" between 2001 and 2003, and "persistently" until 2006. These incursions "caused great concern to the civilian population, particularly low-altitude flights that break the sound barrier over populated areas". On some occasions, Hizbullah tried to shoot them down with anti-aircraft guns.

Police could be alerted instantly when a wanted person used a cash machine or supermarket loyalty card. Cars could be fingerprint-activated, making driving bans much harder to disobey.

The plan would make the ID cards scheme cheaper, since companies would pay for access to the national identity register - a government database of biometric information being compiled for the ID cards programme. Brown's plans belie reports that the Treasury, concerned about the cost of ID cards, would ditch them when he became Prime Minister. 'It's almost the opposite - Gordon's thinking about ID cards is that it's part of the answer but there's a much wider picture,' said a source close to him.

As pundits and policymakers scramble to explain events in Lebanon, their conclusions are virtually unanimous: Hizbullah created this crisis. Israel is defending itself. Diethylastiboestrol (DES) was routinely prescribed to pregnant women from the 1940s to 1970s to fight miscarriage. While victims abroad have obtained compensation, UK victims have been unable to sue because DES was sold by up to 100 companies with no way of knowing which one was involved in their case.

In Gaza the people have long endured the night-time terror of sonic-booms even before the low-flying, sound-barrier-breaking jets were accompanied by bombs and exploding shells. Now, as the war in Gaza continues unabated, the Israeli forces are tripling their psychological attacks against the already terrified civilians. Everyone can remember waking in the dark of night and calling out for a light. Everyone has heard their own little ones whimpering as they wake from a nightmare and everyone knows that to be soothed and to sooth and comfort, a light is turned on to disperse the shadows from the corners and make lie to the fears of the child.

But there are no lights in Gaza, and flickering candlelight only heightens the fear and anxiety in the face of the mother when she tries to comfort a child. She can not say that no one is behind the door because there well might be, and if they are there they will harm her child, as the statistics of this conflict shamefully show.

There is no light, there is no fresh water to give the people, there is no sewage system and there is no way that the hospitals will be able to continue functioning. All these factors are frightening. That the 1.3 million people in Gaza will slowly starve to death, or die of some unsanitary disease, is frightening. It is the feeling that one might have in a confined space wondering how long the air will last

The Israeli Army are now calling residents on their mobile phones to warn them of an imminent raid on their family home.

Witnesses in Gaza tell of the following messages they have received: "If you want to give shelter to terrorists, we will destroy your house, as we are destroying the houses of Lebanon," and ''Name and Surname, here is the IDF, you have just one hour to leave your house and to advise all your neighbors, as after that we will destroy your house. We have a death warrant for your home."

Whether the raid occurs or not, the family are traumatized by the messages that either they received or their neighbors received or that they are afraid they will receive today or tomorrow or in the middle of the next night.

In countless ways a war is being waged against the future social health of the Arab states, where at the very least 50% of the population grow up with missing members of their families due directly to Israeli and American conquest wars and subsequent occupation of territories.

A new blood test that detects breast cancer at its earliest stage is being trialled, which could pinpoint cancer long before it shows up using other methods. Scientists believe it could also be adapted to identify ovarian & prostate cancer. Trials show it to be up to 1,000 times more sensitive than existing tests. Researchers recently stated mammogram breast X-rays can actually trigger breast cancer in some women. Cancer specialists found radiation from the X-rays leaves those with a family history of breast cancer more than 50% more likely to develop the disease after having mammograms. This means a more effective screening method is needed. The blood test works by detecting subtle changes in blood proteins caused when the immune system starts to fight a cancer. It may also help show whether a tumour is malignant or benign. Prof. Jasminka Godovac-Zimmerman, from University College, London reports the findings in "Journal of Proteome Research" today. She said it would mean less invasive & safer testing. She led a group which included teams from Pittsburgh & Pennsylvania University. Cancer Research UK said further trials are needed before doctors can use the test.

Patients who have been treated with radioactive isotopes for thyroid problems or cancer in the last few months can set-off airport security alarms. They may then be subjected to body searches & interrogation. Some 10,000 UK patients are treated with radioactive isotopes.

A German computer security consultant has shown that he can clone the electronic passports that the United States and other countries are beginning to distribute this year.

The controversial e-passports contain radio frequency ID, or RFID, chips that the U. S. State Department and others say will help thwart document forgery. But Lukas Grunwald, a security consultant with DN-Systems in Germany and an RFID expert, says the data in the chips is easy to copy.

"The whole passport design is totally brain damaged," Grunwald says. "From my point of view all of these RFID passports are a huge waste of money. They're not increasing security at all."

Bucking calls in the international community for a cease-fire in the Middle East, Jewish organizations launched a major lobbying offensive in the nation's capital this week to give Israel more time to deal a decisive blow to Islamist militants in Lebanon and Gaza.

With the civilian death toll in Lebanon surpassing 200 early in the week, international calls were increasing for a cease-fire and the deployment of an international force to Lebanon, and the United States signalled that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would arrive in the region Sunday. Army Depleted Uranium project www.uruknet.info July 24, 2006 The delivery of at least 100 GBU 28 bunker busters bombs containing depleted uranium warheads by the United States to Israel for use against targets in Lebanon will result in additional radioactive and chemical toxic contamination with consequent adverse health and environmental effects throughout the middle east.

Today, U. S., British, and now Israeli military personnel are using illegal uranium munitions- America's and England's own "dirty bombs" while U. S. Army, U. S. Department of Energy, U. S. Department of Defense, and British Ministry of Defence officials deny that there are any adverse health and environmental effects as a consequence of the manufacture, testing, and/or use of uranium munitions to avoid liability for the wilful and illegal dispersal of a radioactive toxic material - depleted uranium.
