Joyce Ann Hafford was a single mother living alone with her thirteen-year-old son, Jermal, in Memphis, Tennessee, when she learned that she was pregnant with her second child. She worked as a customer service representative at a company called CMC Call Center; her son was a top student, an athlete and musician. In April 2003, Hafford, four months pregnant, was urged by her obstetrician to take an HIV test. She agreed, even though she was healthy and had no reason to think she might be HIV positive. The test result came up positive, though Hafford was tested only once, and she did not know that pregnancy itself can cause a false positive HIV test.

Prescription Drugs | Many Authors of Mental Health Diagnosis Guidelines Have Financial Ties to Drug Makers, Study Says (Graham, Chicago Tribune, 4/20)

The majority of psychiatrists who worked on the most recent edition of the American Psychiatric Association's widely influential diagnostic manual had financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry before, during or after the manual was published, according to a study published Thursday in Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, the New York Times reports. Researchers from Tufts University and the University of Massachusetts studied financial records and conflict-of-interest statements in medical journals from 1989 to 2004. They found that 95 of 170 psychiatrists who worked on the 1994 edition -- the most recent -- of APA's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual had financial ties to the pharmaceutical industry during that period (Carey, New York Times, 4/20). The DSM often is "described as the psychiatrist's bible," and although the manual does not "contain specific recommendations for treating patients ... psychiatrists regularly refer to the diagnostic criteria for understanding mental disorders," the Newark Star-Ledger reports (Silverman, Newark Star-Ledger, 4/20). In addition, FDA will not approve a drug to treat a mental condition that is not listed in the DSM, making it of "enormous importance to pharmaceutical firms," the Chicago Tribune reports .

AUSTIN, Texas -- One of the consistent deformities in American policy debate has been challenged by a couple of professors, and the reaction proves their point so neatly it's almost funny.

A working paper by John Mearsheimer, professor of political science at the University of Chicago, and Stephen Walt, professor of international affairs at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, called "The Israel Lobby" was printed in the London Review of Books this month. And all hell broke loose in the more excitable reaches of journalism and academe.

For having the sheer effrontery to point out the painfully obvious--that there is an Israel lobby in the United States--Mearsheimer and Walt have been accused of being anti-Semitic, nutty and guilty of "kooky academic work." Harvard professor Alan Dershowitz, who seems to be easily upset, went totally ballistic over the mild, academic, not to suggest pretty boring, article by Mearsheimer and Walt, calling them "liars" and "bigots."

Of course there is an Israel lobby in America; its leading working group is the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. It calls itself "America's Pro-Israel Lobby," and it attempts to influence U. S. legislation and policy.

I was a "dangerous man", Dershowitz shouted over the air, adding that to be "anti-American" - my thought-crime for asking the "Why?" question - was the same as being anti-Semitic.

Food additive "MSG" is a Slow Poison. Slow Poisoning MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as "Natural Flavouring".

MSG is also in your favourite Tim Horton's and other brand coffee shops! Pass this on to those who still may be unaware or disbelieving of the dangers of MSG. I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called "The Slow Poisoning of America". In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies.

No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats (and humans?) to become obese. They even have a title for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats".

I was shocked too. I went to my kitchen, checking the cupboards and the fridge. MSG was in everything! The Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavoured potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low fat' ones. The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called ''Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein'', which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate. It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. They hide MSG under many different names in order to fool those who carefully read the ingredient list, so they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG: 'Accent' - 'Aginomoto' - 'Natural Meet Tenderizer' etc) But it didn't stop there.

When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items had MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere. Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant, even the sit down ones like TGIF, Chilis', Applebees and Denny's use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin, their secret spice was MSG! So why is MSG in so may of the foods we eat?.. Is it a preservative or a vitamin??

Not according to my friend John. In the book he wrote, an expose of the food additive industry called "The Slow Poisoning of America" he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

A study of the elderly showed that people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobby group says eating more benefits the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us? 'Betcha can't eat just one', takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight?

The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance! Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday. The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food.

They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. How can they claim it safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these? - The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity'. Yes, that last study was not a typo, it WAS written in 1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about MSG's side effects for decades! Many more studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to Diabetes, Migraines and headaches, Autism, ADHD and even Alzheimer's. But what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Even as you read this, G. W. Bush and his corporate supporters are pushing a Bill through Congress called the "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act" also known as the "Cheeseburger Bill", this sweeping law bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. Even if it comes out that they purposely added an addictive chemical to their foods. It is important that Bush and his corporate supporters get it through before the media lets everyone know about 'MSG, the intentional Nicotine for food'.

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada. While sitting in the Government office, the official told him "Sure I know how bad MSG is, I wouldn't touch the stuff!" But this top level government official refused to tell the public what he knew.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing legal issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive. But what can I do about it?... I'm just one voice!

What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us!

This e-mail is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic, is to forward this email to everyone. Moscow (CNSNews.com) - Russia begins construction of a major oil pipeline from eastern Siberia to the Pacific on Friday, a project that signals a shift toward Asia and away from Europe.

The planned 1,400 mile-long pipeline, estimated to cost $11.5 billion, will stream oil to Pacific Rim markets, including China and Japan, when it is completed by the end of 2008.

The project has been controversial, given its planned route near the shores of Lake Baikal, the world's largest body of fresh water.

President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday unexpectedly gave in to environmentalists' demands and ordered a change in the route.

Russia should look to the East for energy partnerships, he said, because Russian companies were facing discrimination and unfair competition elsewhere.

Do you suffer from restless legs syndrome? We’re sure you do, because countless newspaper articles revealed that loads of people have the problem.

And they know because a drug company told them so, and the drug company should know because it was about to launch a new drug for, er, restless legs syndrome.

The mutually beneficial dance between the drugs industry and the media was revealed at a recent conference in Australia on ‘disease mongering’. Also at the dance are the ‘patient groups’, which become willing partners and are invariably funded by the drug industry. They provide the official seal of approval on a non-existent, or rare, disease that suddenly becomes the stuff of a national crisis. So-called diseases that have been inflated in order to flog millions of dollars worth of drugs include sexual dysfunction, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder and restless legs syndrome.

Restless legs syndrome started to attract enormous press interest in 2003 after drug giant GlaxoSmithKline launched an ‘awareness campaign’, which revealed that the condition was widespread and under-diagnosed. In short time, 33 newspaper articles appeared about the condition, and researchers discovered that journalists uncritically accepted the ‘information’ fed to them by the drug company.

They also championed a ‘cure’ for the problem – the drug Requip (ropinirole), which happened to have been manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. (Source: British Medical Journal, 2006; 332: 871).

How do you know if you’ve got the beginnings of multiple sclerosis? Your suspicions may be raised if you suffer two separate – and different – neurological malfunctions, and this is the acid test before deciding to see the doctor.

If this happens to you, your doctor will arrange for you to have a hospital examination, which will be an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan. This is the standard treatment for determining MS cases, as it can detect ‘clinically silent’ lesions in the brain. Unfortunately, the scan is a hopelessly inaccurate method of detection, and researchers have also discovered that lesions – even lots of them in the brain – don’t necessarily indicate the presence of MS.

This striking piece of new research suggests that medicine doesn’t have any reliable tools at its disposable to detect MS. Worse, it means that many cases of MS aren’t MS at all, and patients and their families go through years of hell when there isn’t much wrong with the person.

The MRC Health Services Research Collaboration in Bristol reviewed 29 studies on MRI and MS, and discovered that the scan could not rule out – or rule in, come to that – the possibility of MS. The presence of brain lesions didn’t indicate MS, either. Even patients with 10 or more brain lesions didn’t develop MS, the study found. (Source: British Medical Journal, 2006; 332: 875-8).

Al-Zarqawi Video Is A Pentagon Propaganda Psy-Op April 10th Washington Post article said US would 'play up' role of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, target 'US home audience'

The Pentagon is engaged in a psychological PR propaganda campaign to exaggerate the role of Musab Al-Zarqawi in Iraq and link the war in Iraq to 9/11. How do we know? Because their own leaked documents admit it.

How else can we therefore quantify yesterday's 'surprise' release of the Al-Zarqawi video tape as anything other than a cynical ploy on the part of the Pentagon to hoodwink the American public into believing that George W. Bush is leading US troops in a brave turf war against global terrorists?

An April 10th Washington Post article brazenly stated,"The U. S. military is conducting a propaganda campaign to magnify the role of the leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, according to internal military documents and officers familiar with the program. The effort has raised his profile in a way that some military intelligence officials believe may have overstated his importance and helped the Bush administration tie the war to the organization responsible for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks."

The Post even described how the Pentagon had concocted fake Al-Zarqawi letters boasting about suicide attacks and leaked them to Dexter Filkins of the New York Times, who splashed it on the front page the next day. Despite the fact that Filkins had severe doubts about the authenticity of the letter, the Times got down on their knees, licked boots, and published it anyway.

And the military leadership has the nerve to claims its propaganda doesn't target US citizens and only appears in 'liberated' Iraqi newspapers.

The same documents directly state that the false promotion of Al-Zarqawi includes marking the the "U. S. Home Audience" as one of the targets of a broader propaganda campaign."

Transcripts of meetings between the Joint Chiefs of Staff talk about turning Al-Zarqawi into a caricature and making him appear, "more important than he really is."

Donald Rumsfeld recently stated that the US media was being used by Bin Laden and Al-Zarqawi as a tool of propaganda for Al-Qaeda! The Pentagon itself is running PR for Al-Qaeda in trying to link the monumental mess in Iraq to the events of 9/11.

Americans watched Forrest Gump shake hands with President Kennedy 12 years ago. Do you really think creating a mock video in 2006 is going to be a problem?

The Pentagon admits it leaked fake Al-Zarqawi letters to the New York Times, what would prevent them from leaking a video? Especially as the deceased Al-Zarqawi isn't around to disown himself of appearing in the video.

In December 2005, the government started consulting on whether to slaughter badgers to control TB in cattle. It apparently ignored evidence from its own scientists that such killing could increase the disease and that most is caused by cattle to cattle infection.

The consultation period has now ended. There was a huge response. We understand that the vast majority was totally opposed to killing badgers.

An Early Day Motion number 1788 has been put before Parliament. It calls on the Government to note the robust scientific evidence that a badger cull will almost certainly make the situation worse. It is concerned that the proposed methods of killing badgers are inhumane and that the vast majority of badgers are not infected. It urges the Government to quickly implement the cattle measures needed to tackle the disease. Sadly many M. P's seem unaware of the situation and few have signed the motion.

Over the course of the last few months, the Badger Trust has campaigned vigorously to stop this massive threat to the badgers.

If the decision does go ahead, many thousands of badgers will be shot, snared or gassed. The vast majority will be healthy.

2. Urging your local MP to sign the motion.

We need to ensure that MP's receive a large number of letters from the public. The more they receive, the more they will listen and realise that this is an important issue. Your letter should say in your own words that you are opposed to the killing of badgers as it is not a solution to the bovine TB problem. Instead the Government should implement the cattle control measures recommended by its own scientists.

Please do not underestimate the seriousness of this threat to one of Britain's best-loved animals.

The former deputy head of the Egyptian Domestic Security Agency says the group behind yesterday's deadly bombings in Dahab is not Arab Terrorists — it's Israel.

General Fouad Allam, who in 2004 pinned the bombing of a Sinai hotel on the Israeli Intelligence service Mossad, said only the Israelis had anything to gain from carrying out the attacks arguing that Arabs would not have targeted areas frequented by Egyptians.

Scientists working along the south west coast of Britain have discovered wide-spread evidence of chemicals disrupting the sexual development of marine organisms. The study, published today, reveals hormone-disrupting pollutants are believed responsible for gender-bending effects on marine invertebrates in British estuaries. Clams & other species are crucial for the health of the eco-system & form the diet of many larger animals. Researchers at The Marine Biological Assoc. in Plymouth examined clams in estuaries from Southampton to The Severn & found males at 17 of the 23 sites were "intersex" having both sperm & eggs. After appointing Joshua Bolten to be the White House chief of staff, US President George W. Bush nominated another Jewish staffer, Joel Kaplan, to serve as Bolten's deputy, putting him in charge of the daily policy planning. 1000s of people affected by UKs worst drinking water pollution incident should be tested for brain disease, say scientists. The call follows the death of Carol Cross, 59, from a rare form of Alzheimer's in the Cornish town of Camelford. The water supply to 20,000 people was polluted when 20 tons of aluminium sulphate was poured into the wrong tank at a water treatment works near Bodmin in July 1988. Residents have suffered brain damage & joint problems etc. Carole died 2 years ago after bouts of illness that followed her taking a bath in the polluted water. A report by scientists at Keele Uni, released on 20 April 06, reveals very high levels of aluminium were found in her brain tissue. Scientists want other exposed people to be tested. Her form of the disease is sporadic early onset beta amyloid angiopathy. Aluminium has been associated with increased risks of the disease. Main researcher Dr. Chris Exley of Birchall Centre for Inorganic Chemistry & Materials Science at Keele Uni, called for rigorous monitoring of the affected Camelford residents. The BMJ concluded that "poisoning probably led to long-term cerebral impairment in some people in Camelford." South West Water was prosecuted but fined only £10,000 & paid out just £400,000 compensation, shared between 148 victims.

D. Mail 20.4.06 "NHS WASTES MILLIONS OVERPAYING FOR DRUGS"

Millions of £s of taxpayers' money is wasted each year by the NHS over-paying pharmacists for prescription drugs. Flaws in the Govt's new system for reimbursing chemist shops means some are making vast profits. The findings are from the London School of Economics. In one example, they found pharmacists were being reimbursed £2-12p by the NHS for every packet of 10mg generic simvastin, a blood thinning drug. But the drugs were sold to the pharmacist for as little as 45p.

Metro 19.4.06 "MIDWIVES UNCHECKED"

The Nursing & Midwifery Council which regulates 670,000 nurses & midwives has checked up on only 60 of them in the past 5 years, a report revealed on 18 April. It has checked up on none since 2003 said "Nursing Standard" magazine. The council has the power to conduct random checks on midwives to ensure they comply with rules on re-registration. Unison said the findings were 'alarming.'

I was in Cyprus for five days where I stayed with Jim Searcy. He had just produced a 9-11 CD and noted, "They screwed up Building 7 and UA Flight 93. If people figure those out, the scandal will fly."

Flight 93 was supposed to knock Building 7 down and the building was jammed with explosives for the moment. But instead, the plane fell in Pennsylvania so owner Larry Silverstein had to bring the building down by himself. That, or expose the demolitives for the world to see.

There, now you know. Another Sabbataian "Jew" mucking up the world.

But first some facts. Building 7 fell in a controlled demolition. Larry said so. Need I ask? Do you know how how long it takes to rig a building for a perfect fall? Larry broke the record by a few weeks, rigging his building in a few hours, while the twin towers smoldered beside him.

HERCEPTIN: How an unproven drug became a miracle cure

Drug companies travel more in hype than hope. A good example is the ‘wonder’ cancer drug Herceptin, which has suddenly become the people’s choice and the media’s darling.
This grassroots movement will doubtlessly be energized by cancer patient Ann Rogers’s victory in the Court of Appeal against her health authority, which may feel impelled to start offering the drug.

On the face of it, it’s a bit of a mystery how Herceptin caught the public imagination, and captured the front pages of the national newspapers in the first place.
It’s a drug that’s appropriate in only a small percentage of breast cancer cases, and early reports from the USA suggest there may be worrying, and serious, side effects, including heart problems.

It’s also unlicensed, and there have been very limited trials into its effectiveness and safety. In one, nearly 19 per cent of the participants had to stop the drug early because they suffered toxic effects.

But dig a little deeper, and you’ll discover that Roche has been encouraging and cajoling the ‘grassroots’ campaign. Company representatives have been busy telephoning breast cancer patients, and putting them in contact with pressure groups and patient groups, which also happen to enjoy funding from drug companies. They’ve even offered to pay patients who are prepared to stand up and demand that Herceptin be made generally available in the UK.

And, of course, the PR companies that represent the pharmaceuticals have been contacting health journalists, who have an insatiable thirst for the next great ‘miracle cure’ story that will help sell their newspapers.

Sadly, behind this activity lies the simple fact that Herceptin isn’t a wonder drug at all. Instead, it is just another untested drug with a dubious safety record.

San Francisco - This week, AOL blocked delivery to AOL customers of all emails that include a link to www. DearAOL. com. Over 100 people who signed a petition to AOL tried sending messages to their AOL-using friends, and received a bounce-back message informing them that their email "failed permanently."

"The fact is, ISPs like AOL commonly make these kinds of arbitrary decisions every day - silently banning huge swathes of legitimate mail on the flimsiest of reasons - and no one hears about it," said Danny O'Brien, Activism Coordinator of the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF). "AOL's planned CertifiedEmail system would let it profit from this power by offering to charge legitimate mailers to bypass these malfunctioning filters."

After the original version of this press release was sent out Thursday afternoon, AOL stopped blocking email with links to www.DearAOL.com. This incident only increases our worry about organizations that don't have the ability to seek instant press attention. The next time AOL's anti-spam filters fail for a small organization - or one without political muscle - will they move so quickly to fix them? Or will they push organizations to just sign up with Goodmail and pay to avoid the problem?

When reports of undelivered email started rolling in to the DearAOL. com Coalition, MoveOn co-founder Wes Boyd decided to see for himself if it was true.

"I tried to email my brother-in-law about DearAOL.com, and AOL sent me a response as if he had disappeared," said Boyd. "But when I sent him an email without the DearAOL. com link, it went right through."

While AOL may imply that censoring www.DearAOL.com is part of some anti-spam effort, its own customers are witnessing how faulty AOL's spam measures would be if that were the case.

"I forwarded www.DearAOL.com to my own AOL account and it was censored. Apparently I can't even tell myself about it," said Kelly Tessitore from Framingham, Massachusetts.

"This proves the DearAOL. com Coalition's point entirely: left to their own devices, AOL will always put its own self- interest ahead of the public interest in a free and open Internet," said Timothy Karr, campaign director of Free Press, a national, nonpartisan organization working on media reform and Internet policy issues. "AOL wants us to believe they won't hurt free email when their pay-to-send system is up and running. But if AOL is willing to censor the flow of information now to silence their critics, how could anyone trust that they will preserve the free and open Internet down the road? Their days of saying 'trust us' are over - their credibility is zero, zip, nada."

WTC7 : UK Minister confirms demolition

In an extraordinary written reply, after a request to Jack Straw MP from a constituent, Ian Pearson, the UK Minister for Trade and Foreign Affairs has written to David Crausby MP, stating -

" ... the WTC building 7 was not attacked. A number of WTC and other buildings .... were subsequently pulled down in the aftermath of the attacks ... "

As WTC 7 fell on the same day, within 10 hours, and as these demolitions take many days, if not weeks, to set up, this is clear UK govt. support, however unintended, for the obvious view that the destruction of, at least, WTC 7 was pre-planned.

The extension of this is that the same applies to WTC 1 and 2 : as an ever-increasing number of people are now realising.

It is long past the time for the US/UK State/Media 911 charade to cease.

Critics force climbdown on Bill for a 'British dictatorship' By Sam Coates, Political Correspondent - The Times April 14, 2006

THE Government has backed down over the so-called 'dictatorship Bill", which would have allowed ministers to bypass parliamentary scrutiny. This comes after trenchant criticism from a cross-party group of MPs, peers and senior lawyers, including six Cambridge law professors, who gave warning in a letter to The Times that it would allow the Government to rewrite almost any Act.

The Legislative and Regulatory Reform Bill, which the Government said would help to cut red tape, also provoked a grassroots revolt when nearly 2,000 people signed up to a Save Parliament campaign.

Jim Murphy, the Cabinet Office Minister responsible for the Bill, has now indicated that he will amend the legislation to make clear 'beyond doubt" that it will be used only to tackle red tape, known as better regulation.

U. S. blocks UN draft pressing Israel to end attacks - Apr 14, 2006

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States on Thursday blocked a U. N. Security Council statement drafted by Arab nations and aimed at putting pressure on Israel to stop military strikes on Palestinian targets.

U. S. Ambassador John Bolton said the draft, even after three days of intense negotiations, "was disproportionately critical of Israel, and unfairly so, and needlessly so."

But Palestinian U. N. Observer Riyad Mansour accused Washington of "shielding and protecting Israeli activities and aggression against the Palestinian people."

"It was obvious that many of their concerns were accommodated but yet they kept coming back and coming back for additional things. It was obvious they did not want the Security Council to have a position," Mansour said.

Washington does not have formal veto power when it comes to council statements. But it was nonetheless able to block the draft single-handedly because council rules require that statements be unanimous supported by all 15 of its members.

Apricot seeds which are sold for their health benefits could be poisonous if eaten in large quantities, the Food Standards Agency said today.

They can produce cyanide and could be fatal in high doses over a short period of time, the Government's food watchdog warned.

I wonder if the Hunzas, and other tribes who consume many apricot kernels at a time each day, and have the highest life-expectancy on the planet, and no cancer, will be altering their diet? :0)

It's one of the most blatant examples of organized health fraud perpetuated by the vested interests via the dumb media.

And it's so sensationalist - 'killer' fruit; ''spokesperson says', 'received reports from overseas'; unqualified 'very serious health effects'- etc. They probably had a healing crisis and the doctor panicked. Or just had a stomach cramp. Or maybe it's all just invention. Who knows?

The threat to the cancer business from effective therapies was taken very seriously from the beginning. By the 1940s the Syndicate had 300,000 names on its 'quack' files. Vitamin B17, being a unique threat due to its simplicity, attracted more concentrated attacks than all the other treatments put together: fraudulent test reports; hired, banner-carrying pickets outside clinics; rigged juries; newspaper character assassinations; dismissal of heretic employees, etc.

The FDA, orchestrating the onslaught, sent out 10,000 posters and hundreds of thousands of leaflets warning about the dangers of the toxicity of the non-toxic substance. Earlier, a Congressional Accounting Office had found that 350 FDA employees had shares in, or had refused to declare an interest in, the pharmaceutical industry.

After much searching, geographically and historically, the FDA came up with three alleged cases of deaths from Laetrile poisoning: this in a country where hundreds are killed daily by FDA-approved treatments.

Two were women who had swallowed vials of Laetrile which were for injection only and one was an eleven month old baby girl, one of whose parents was taking the medicine for cancer.

According to the FDA the child had become ill after she had 'accidentally ingested up to 5 (500mg) tablets of Laetrile'. This was doubted by many including Dr Harold Manner:

'…I was lecturing in Buffalo, New York and...after I had made some strong statements - a man stood up and said "Dr. Manner, how in the world can you make statements like that when the FDA is making these other statements?" I reiterated that the FDA statements were lies.

'He said, "Look at this little girl in upstate New York, she took her father's Laetrile tablets and died of cyanide poisoning." Just then a little lady stood up:

'"Dr. Manner let me answer that question...I think I am entitled to because I am that little baby's mother."

'"That baby never touched her father's Laetrile tablets."

'The doctor...knowing the father was on Laetrile...marked down "possible cyanide poisoning". At the hospital they used a cyanide antidote and it was the antidote that killed the child. And yet that statement will continue to appear even though they know it is a lie.'⁴⁰

The totally-fabricated stories of B17/Laetrile toxicity were eagerly grasped by the UK cancer combine. The 'Dept. of Health', aided by Gwyneth Dunwoody MP and her hysterical outbursts about 'cyanide poisoning', had apricot pit powder removed from the health food shop shelves.

In March 1984 the government brought in 'The Medicines (Cyanogenetic Substances) Order 1984'. This Order meant that preparations which '..are presented for sale or supply under the name of, or as containing, amygdalin, laetrile or vitamin B17 or...contain more than 0.1 percent by weight...' of the 'cyanide-producing substances' were to be under the control of the 1968 Medicines Act and, therefore, out of easy reach of any cancer patient who preferred to exercise freedom of choice instead of opting for the manslaughter on offer from the cancer hospitals.

The '0.1 percent' figure shows the extent to which the cancer cartel were prepared to go to stop amygdalin. Apricot and bitter almond kernels are around 2 percent amygdalin and have long been found in British and Italian biscuits on supermarket shelves in the UK. The fact that the biscuits have not attracted any attention shows the non-toxicity of the substance and confirms it is only a danger to the cancer racketeers and not to the consumers.

A much greater farce, of course, is the fact that all the billions of seeds within the apricots, peaches, plums, cherries, apples, pears etc., sold by fruiterers since March 1984, are all in contravention of the Order.

D. Mail 12.4.06 "FISH OIL PILLS WITHDRAWN OVER CANCER CHEMICAL

FEAR" Fish oil capsules contaminated with cancer-causing dioxin industrial chemicals are being taken off Boots stores. Such chemicals are usually removed but tests showed 2 batches of Boots Super Strength Fish Oil Capsules contained illegal levels of dioxins. This comes a month after some Seven Seas batches were removed because of similar contamination. The set limit for dioxins is just 2 micrograms per kilo. As well as causing cancer, dioxins can harm unborn babies.

1000s of elderly are denied a dignified death. A lack of nurse training & failure to follow procedures, means many elderly do not receive care & comfort at the end of life. Research for Help the Aged confirms other findings that older people's suffering is more likely to be overlooked than that of younger patients. The survey of 800 nurses, nurse managers, NHS managers & other health professionals found a third had no time to care for dying patients. Half said there were no 'end of life' policies or procedures at their work place.

Bird Flu Outbreak Coincided With Drill

Foot and Mouth example should set alarm bells ringing if pandemic occurs

Britain's bird flu scare that officials are now warning could spread to other areas of Scotland coincided with an exercise that drilled a response to an avian flu outbreak. The drill included the involvement of Downing Street and the Ministry of Defence.

The BBC reports that the exercise was cancelled as soon as the discovery of the H5 virus in the dead swan in Fife was made.

"The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in London was running it with control centres in Bury St Edmunds, Leeds, Cardiff and Gloucester," states the article.

"It also involved the Association of Chief Police Officers, the Environment Agency, Downing Street, the Ministry of Defence, and other government departments."

The drill revolved around a scenario where bird flu was discovered in two places in England and one in Wales.

Why is this important to note?

Staged-managed manufactured crises are always paralleled by drills of the same nature. This provides culpable deniability if any government agency is caught with their hands in the cookie jar. They can say it was just part of the drill.

Watchdog 'was given warning on danger of drug trial' by Jeremy Laurance

The British Government's drugs safety authority was warned in advance about a drug trial which was to leave six men, including a New Zealander, in intensive care.

The warning of a risk of a catastrophic reaction came from TeGenero, the German manufacturer of TGN1412, in its application to the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority.

TeGenero told the MHRA that there had been previous incidence in which similar drugs had provoked serious adverse reaction in human volunteers.

Yet the MHRA allowed the trial to go ahead and six men who received the drug suffered a massive immune response known as a "cytokine storm".

Women who take commonly prescribed anti-depressants during pregnancy could be up to twice as likely to give birth to stillborn & underweight babies, researchers have warned. Taking Prozac, Seroxat & Lustral & other drugs can increase the risk for a range of problems including premature birth & seizures in newborns. The latest research relates to SSRIs. The study was carried out at the Ottawa Health Research Institute in Toronto. Almost 20% of the group prescribed SSRIs had a premature baby, compared with 12% of the group not on the drugs. The number of stillbirths was also approx. double at 1.1% compared to 0.4%.

Harvard Study: Strong Link Between Fluoridated Water and Bone Cancer in Boys

Department Chair With Industry Ties Misrepresented Results to Federal Authorities

(WASHINGTON, April 5) - Boys who drink water with levels of fluoride considered safe by federal guidelines are five times more likely to have a rare bone cancer than boys who drink unfluoridated water, according to a study by Harvard University scientists published in a peer-reviewed journal.

The study, led by Dr. Elise Bassin and published online today in Cancer Causes and Control, the official journal of the Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention, found a strong link between fluoridated drinking water and osteocarcoma, a rare and often fatal bone cancer, in boys. The study confirms studies by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the New Jersey health department that also found increased rates of bone cancer in boys who drank fluoridated tap water.

Bassin's study comes on the heels of a National Academy of Sciences
(NAS) report that found the federal "safe" limit for fluoride in tap water did not protect children from dental fluorosis or increased bone fractures. The NAS recommended that the allowable limit for fluoride in tap water be lowered immediately.

"This study raises very serious concerns about fluoride's safety and its potential to cause bone cancer in teenage boys," said Richard Wiles, EWG's senior vice president. "The findings raise fundamental questions about the wisdom of adding fluoride to tap water."

The Bassin study is also at the center of a joint federal and Harvard ethics investigation into whether Dr. Chester Douglass-the chairman of Oral Health Policy and epidemiology at Harvard Dental School and Bassin's doctoral thesis advisor-lied about the results of her work when reporting the results of his federally funded research to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS).

Last year, Environmental Working Group (EWG) obtained documents strongly suggesting that Douglass may have misrepresented Bassin's findings. Douglass has received large federal grants to study the relationship between fluoridated drinking water and bone cancer, and is on the payroll of Colgate, the toothpaste giant, where he has edited their dentists' newsletter for more than a decade.

When pressed recently by an investigative reporter from Fox News in Boston as to the quality of Bassin's findings, Douglass had nothing but praise for the work. "She did a good job. She had a good group of people advising her. And it's a nice-it's a nice analysis. There's nothing wrong with that analysis," he said.

"It's nice to see that Dr. Douglass has finally come clean on the quality of Dr. Bassin's work. It's just a shame that he was not so forthcoming when reporting on his work to the NIH," Wiles said.

Fox filmed Dr. Douglass waving a draft copy of Harvard's investigation of his conduct, and saying the university's report will be coming out soon. Last year, EWG asked the NIEHS, which funded Douglass' research, to investigate whether he misrepresented his findings.

EWG urges communities not to add fluoride to tap water, and advises parents to avoid fluoridated water for their children, particularly bottle fed infants. "Fluoride is fine in toothpaste, where it is directly applied to the teeth, but provides almost no dental benefit in water, while presenting serious health risks, particularly for boys," Wiles said.

Women who get plenty of vitamin D are at 50% less risk of breast cancer, new research suggests. Even modest levels may reduce the risk by 10%. The research was led by Julia Knight of Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. But some supplements have the D2 form in, which is less potent than D3. A study led by Cedric Garland of California Uni in San Diego involved over 120,000 women in studies at Harvard Uni & St. George's Hospital Medical School, London. Women received 1,000 iu's a day, whereas most women only receive 320. Vitamin D can be received by sunlight on the skin, but being careful not to burn, oily fish & supplements.

A simple 2-minute breath best by a GP could detect early breast cancer. This & other medical conditions cause patients to exhale volatile organic compounds. In the US a breath analyser made by Menssana Research of Fort Lee, New Jersey, is being used to detect patients rejecting heart transplants. This could be a more sensitive detecter than mammograms which can be difficult to interpret, & a more comfortable initial screening before advising a mammogram.

The Serious Fraud Office today began criminal proceedings against five pharmaceutical companies after a four-year investigation into alleged price-fixing of generic drugs sold to the NHS.

Nine company executives have also been named in the charges, accused of conspiracy to defraud hospitals of up to £150 million by overcharging for the blood-thinning agent warfarin and a range of widely-available antibiotics.

The criminal action follows an extensive SFO probe into alleged collusion between suppliers to artificially inflate the price of the prescription treatments - including the named brand Marevan and four penicillin-based drugs - for five years until 2001.

The companies named are responsible for more than 50 per cent of NHS supplies of generic medicines - drugs that are out of patent and therefore available for any manufacturer to produce without having to pay royalties. All deny the charge.

Philip Lewis, the squad's assistant director, said that he believed the legal action was likely to have a significant impact on the business culture of medical suppliers.

The investigation, Operation Holbein, is said to be the largest ever conducted by the SFO with papers for the investigation at one stage filling an entire floor of the squad's office in Central London.

Ajit Patel and Kirti Patel, two of the nine men due to be arrested when they surrender to bail in the next three days, issued an immediate denial of any wrongdoing.

The Patels, directors of the Goldshield Group plc - the only listed firm among the five charged with conspiracy to defraud - said that they "did not act in a way that was unlawful or improper".

The SFO carried out raids on the offices of several suspects four years ago after a parliamentary select committee investigation into unusual movements in the prices of a range of widely used drugs. It is believed that detailed information was provided to the SFO by an insider who is not among the nine facing prosecution.

Seven other executives who worked for the firms under investigation are: Denis O'Neill and John Clark, both of wholesaler Kent Pharmaceuticals Ltd; Jonathan Close and Nicholas Foster, both formerly of Norton Healthcare Ltd, a subsidiary of the American group Ivax; Luma Auchi, formerly of Regent-GM Laboratories Ltd (now in liquidation); Michael Sparrow, formerly of Generics (UK) Ltd, part of German group Merck; and Anil Sharma, formerly of Ranbaxy (UK) Ltd.

The individuals will be bailed following charge to attend Bow Street Magistrates' Court on April 27 when the companies were also required to be represented.

Mr Lewis said: "This important case involving an allegation of dishonest price-fixing by companies is likely to have a significant impact upon the business culture of this country."
